Is Your Loved One at Risk for Developing Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy- Induced Nausea and Vomiting?

Chemotherapy and radiation therapy-induced nausea and vomiting (also called emesis) are more than just an inconvenience–these symptoms can be hazardous to a cancer patient’s health.

The risk of developing emesis can be determined even before treatment begins based on the type of cancer, course of treatment and other circumstances. Determining your loved one’s "nausea factor", or Nfactor, will help predict if he/she is at risk for developing emesis. It’s important to encourage the patient to take the Nfactor Assessment and use it as a point of discussion when talking to his/her healthcare team. Once the risk for chemotherapy and radiation therapy-induced nausea and vomiting is evaluated, steps can be taken to avoid emesis in the future. Click here to take the Nfactor Assessment.
